From 19-20 September 2025, the Centre for Irish Studies, Prague had the honour of hosting a number of emerging Irish Studies experts from universities in Canada, Czechia, England, France, Ireland, Italy, and Türkiye.

Excellent papers were given on a variety of topics, ranging from fiction, drama, and life-writing to history, all under the theme of “Voices from the Margins: Ireland Seen and Unseen.” The conference brought together PhD scholars of different specialisations and backgrounds, facilitating the exchange of constructive feedback and creating a comfortable atmosphere in which to get to know peers.

The packed programme also included a relaxed conference dinner featuring local Czech cuisine, and an ECR panel during which invited speakers Dr Georgina Nugent (University College Cork), Dr James Little (University of Cyprus), and Prof Ondřej Pilný (Charles University / Anglo-American University) gave insights and advice regarding career building, but also talked about their own paths from PhD to job security, opening up about the struggles they faced along the way.

The organising committee thanks all participants, panellists, and chairs for their commitment to making this conference such a welcoming, respectful, and productive arena for academic exchange.
